Aeonium ‘Voodoo’

Horticultural Data | Shipping & Availability | Top

This large and attractive hybrid Aeonium was created by southern California horticulturist Jack Catlin when crossing Aeonium undulatum with Aeonium arboreum ‘Zwartkop’. The burgundy to purple rosette heads reach 12″-16″ in diameter. Like most aeoniums, it is mostly a cool weather grower going somewhat dormant in warm, dry summers. Best leaf color is achieved with at least 3-4 hours of full sun. Aeonium ‘Voodoo’ branches less than other aeoniums and tends to be a solitary plant. The aeonium cross ‘Cyclops’ is of similar parentage but has a larger green eye in the center of the rosette.
This plant blooms in spring, sending up conical clusters of small bright star-shaped yellow flowers. Flowering taxes the plant and blooming stems usually die.

This is a great plant for bringing contrasting dark foliage into succulent and cactus gardens. It looks good when set against gray or silver-blue foliage and is also interesting paired with grasses. It also works well in containers – alone or combined with other succulents.

This plant is easily propagated by taking stem cuttings. Allow the stem cutting to dry for a day before planting to avoid rot. This plant may not come true from seed as it is a hybrid. If a single stem becomes too lanky in can be cut and replanted. The original stem will eventually branch and form new rosettes
