Kalanchoe thyrsiflora

Kalanchoe thrysiflora has these white chalky leaves shown in this photo whereas Kalanchoe Luciae has the much more colorful red blushing leaves. Available here.

Kalanchoe thyrsiflora

This Kalanchoe thyrsiflora plant looks very similar to K. luciae but lacks its red leaf color. It also has somewhat smaller leaves and its flowers are scented and yellow. K. luciae has whitish unscented flowers. It is reported to be somewhat less vigorous than K. luciae. It is much rarer than K. luciae in the trade. Kalanchoe thyrsiflora grows with opposite leaves with each successive pair alternating which forms a square pattern when the stems are short. K. luciae tends to have opposite leaves which do not alternate.

Drought tolerant but likes water during the growing season as most succulents do.

Kalanchoe thyrsiflora is A nice plant for succulent and cactus gardens; can be used as small scale groundcover or foreground plant in large cactus garden borders. It works great in containers alone or combined with other succulents as well. This plant is not fussy about soil types and can take some salt as well, but it needs good drainage.

Requires very good drainage, stems will rot in soggy or very wet soils. Snails can disfigure the leaves.

Remove and replant the small offsets as desired. Can also be grown from seed.
