Agave macroacantha

Horticultural Data | Shipping & Availability | Top

A striking plant with narrow blue gray leaves (which contrast nicely with its dark brown spines), Agave macroacantha forms a near perfect hemisphere. Flowers emerge on a 6′ spike at around 15 years of age after which that rosette dies. Slowly forms a colony by offsets. Seeds can be collected and sown and pups can be replanted to create a colony quicker.

A native of south central Mexico, Agave macroacantha is extremely hardy. Good in containers, landscape borders, rock gardens, or xeriscape plantings. Agave macroacantha has tough spiny leaves, so take care to locate away from foot traffic. Deer resistant.
