Echeveria subsessilis ‘Morning Beauty’

The Echeveria subsessilis, also known as ‘Morning Beauty’, is a small rosette-forming succulent with grey-blue leaves and pink tips. In the spring, this plant produces stunning yellow-red flowers on long, curved stems.

A width of 3-4 inches is typical for a Morning Beauty. While it may be small, it is not lacking either style or splendor. For example, a farina coating on each leaf creates a silvery or misted appearance. The color variety within every leaf is spectacular as gray, light blue, pale purple, and bright pink each make an appearance.

Echeveria subsessilis ‘Morning Beauty’ can tolerate full sun due to the unique powdery coating of farina. Therefore, plant in full sun or partial shade and water only when the soil is completely dry. It is crucial that it is planted in well-draining soil and that pots have sufficient drainage.

To clarify, the Morning Beauty is especially susceptible to root rot and fungal infections when in moist soil for lengthy periods of time.

In addition, Echeveria subsessilis commonly gets mealy bugs when dead leaves have not been removed. Be sure to remove the leaves as they die so that they do not become a habitat for unwanted mealy bugs. This echeveria makes a lovely houseplant when it is placed in a brightly-lit indoor setting. Remember to water sparingly and to repot the Morning Beauty every couple years with fresh soil.
