Agave celsii is a medium-sized, slowly clumping agave with 6 to 8-inch-wide, 2-foot long, light silvery green soft leaves. Its light-colored leaves make Agave celsii a nice contrasting foil for darker colored plants. Very pretty for containers, cactus and succulent beds and borders. The leaves have a soft terminal spine of contrasting brown color, and are somewhat flexible and softer than most agaves, allowing Agave celsii to be placed closer to pedestrian traffic.  Agave celsii does well in the Southern California provided it has good drainage. This agave can take more shade, humidity and water than most agaves.

Agave celsii is a monocarpic plant that dies after sending up an eight-foot flower spike. The flowers are greenish yellow and up to 2.5 inches long, and attract nectar-loving birds and insects. Prized for the white leaves that it produces, celsii makes a great garden specimen because of its small size but bright appearance. Offshoots emerge high up on the trunk so that tight compact cluster are formed. These can be separated for propagation purposes but this proves to be difficult. Axe and saw are required.

There is a minimum purchase of any 4 plants for online orders. All plants shipped bare root. Other sizes may be available for pick up from our growing grounds in Fallbrook, CA. For more information, give us a call at 760-990-4762.
