Aeonium ‘Tip Top’

Horticultural Data | Shipping & Availability | Top

This is a shorter form of Aeonium arborescens that is composed of many small rosettes which completely cover the main stems giving the plant a pyramidal shape. The rosettes are green in the center and radiate out to become a dark burgundy color as they age. The species has large panicles of bright yellow flowers but this cultivar may not always flower. When in bloom the flowers attract beneficiaries such as butterflies, bees and other nectar seeking insects. Plants should be covered during hard freezes as leaves are severely damaged by frost though the main stem and plant will likely recover.
It has good salt tolerance and can be grown in seaside gardens.

This succulent can be used to create visual interest in containers, roof decks, lawn edges, borders, and rock gardens. It is also provides a nice contrast to cactus and dry grasses and silver and gray leaved plants. It can work well as a houseplant in rooms with very bright light.

This Aeonium ‘Tip Top’ plant is easily propagated by taking stem cuttings. Allow the stem cutting to dry for a day before planting to avoid rot. It is very heat tolerant but may not be able to withstand extreme cold.
